We operate large, long-lived, geographically diverse assets with significant proven and probable reserves of copper, gold and molybdenum, a metal used in high-strength steel alloys and the production of lubricants. We have a dynamic portfolio of operating, expansion and growth projects in the copper industry and are the world’s largest producer of molybdenum. The company’s portfolio of assets includes the Grasberg minerals district in Papua, Indonesia; significant mining operations in the Americas; and the potential world-class Tenke Fungurume development project in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The principal asset of our operating subsidiary PT Freeport Indonesia is the Grasberg mine discovered in 1988, at a site where we have operated since 1972. The Grasberg minerals district contains the world’s largest single copper reserve and the world’s largest single gold reserve. PT Freeport Indonesia is also a 25 percent owner of PT Smelting, which operates a copper smelter and refinery in Gresik, Indonesia.
